TOPHOTELPROJECTS hotel database shows that art and lifestyle hotels are set to make the biggest splash in Florida’s party city over the next couple of years.
It’s all guns blazing for Miami’s hotel market, according to figures from the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database.
We check out the top brands and projects that are destined for Miami and run through some of the most important numbers for the city’s hospitality industry.

Miami madness
There’s never a dull moment in Miami. Whether it’s the development of the up and coming Brickell neighbourhood, or the hedonism of Art Basel, Miami is a place to see and be seen, and the hotel industry knows it, which is why the city’s pipeline is in such good shape.

Miami has 37 projects lined up to open between now and 2024, and these hotels are due to add a further 9,389 rooms to Miami’s hotel stock. The majority of these hotels are in the first-class category, with 29 4-star hotels bringing a key count of 5,821 to the city, while the remaining eight hotels are luxury 5-star properties that will add 3,568 rooms.

11 hotels will open in 2021, following the six properties that are due to welcome guests this year, with 2024 also set to be a busy year, with 12 properties opening their doors over the course of those twelve months and beyond.

The lion’s share of the new hotels is either in planning or under construction, with 14 and 12 hotels in each of those phases respectively, putting them on course to open as planned over the next few years, although it remains to be seen how these openings will be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Brands and notable projects
Perhaps it is no surprise that the most appealing brands and the most interesting projects set to land in Miami are those concerned with art and lifestyle. citizenM continues to be a solid bet the world over, and it, along with Radisson Red and AC Hotels by Marriott, will each have two new properties in Miami before the decade reaches its midway point.

The largest hotel to hit Miami will be the Marriott Marquis Miami Worldcenter Hotel & Expo Center, which will boast 1,723 rooms in a business-focused property which will also feature 500,000 square feet of meeting, conference and event space. This 5-star new-build hotel is set to open in the latter half of 2022.

citizenM Miami Brickell will be a 4-star, 348 key property, slated to welcome guests this year. Located in the city’s trendy Brickell neighbourhood, the hotel’s highlight is a 10th-floor sundeck and outdoor terrace with a swimming pool and rooftop bar where guests can enjoy panoramic views of the city’s skyline. The hotel also features an exclusive SocietyM space, which provides meeting and co-working spaces for creatives.

The 21c Museum Hotel Miami HELM is a 155-key boutique hotel that will be in the city’s Buena Vista neighbourhood, close to the Wynwood arts district. As with all 21c hotels, this property will feature its own art gallery, and will also boast a roof terrace and gourmet F&B concept.
Finally, the Smart Brickell Hotel is a three-phased project which will comprise a hotel, shared amenities and commercial facilities. A sky bar in the hotel will be one of the main draws, as will the futuristic nature of the boutique hotel that will form part of the hospitality offering.
